We’re back with a snippet from The Summer of Second Chances and I’m staying in the scene in Sophie’s kitchen for today. You didn’t really think I’d leave you hanging on their first kiss, did you? I’m mean, but I’m not that mean! Remember last week, Ben didn’t think kissing her was a good idea, but here they are after sharing a meal and wine. Sophie’s practically announced that she’s attracted to him, he’s very attracted to her, the kitchen is steamy… He’s dying to kiss her, but he’s still overthinking it… Don’t do it—turn around and go back to your own cottage. He stared into her green eyes. When…

And we’re back with another snippet from The Summer of Second Chances. Last week, Sophie put herself out there and simply asked Ben if he was at all attracted to her. You’ll recall that Ben’s response was less than enthusiastic, so I’m skipping over the part where Sophie backtracks and tells him to forget she asked. Unable to even look at him now, she begins cleaning up the dishes, while he stands in the kitchen feeling like a first-class heel. They’re caught up in a moment of excruciating embarrassment…so Ben goes to the sink to try to fix things, but… He closed his eyes for moment. He was drowning here. You can…

  • Process? Um…Okay…

My writer pals, Ainsley Brooks and the Lit Diva are taking part in a Writing Process blog tour and they’ve invited me along. I agreed because this is kind of a sensitive topic for me, and I think it’s because I feel like I should have a process, but I’m not at all sure I do. I want to be able to tell you that I write x number of hours each day and set word count goals. I want to tell you that the writing always, always comes first, that I pop out of bed at 4:30 each morning and get my 1000 to 1500 words in before the…

  • 8-Sentence Sunday

Sunday!! Our favorite day because it means we get to taste a snippet of so many great writers’ works in progress. Here’s more of mine–yes, I am a great writer! (Thank you, Lani Diane Rich!) We’ve got another eight sentences from The Summer of Second Chances, Book 3 in the Women of Willow Bay series. Last Sunday, Ben was shocked when his plain little editor turned into a sexy flirt, and their dinner together was a totally surprising experience. I’m skipping the rest of the supper scene because I think you need to have the full pleasure of reading it in the actual book. Suffice to say, Ben’s relaxed, deciding…

It’s Sunday! Time for another snippet from The Summer of Second Chances. Remember last week, poor Ben is confused and aroused by the sudden change in his plain little editor. She’s turned into  a siren and he’s completely baffled as he joins her for a light supper on the patio, but fascinated by this new side of Sophie. Continuing from where we left off last week, they’ve started eating and it’s clear, Sophie’s enjoying her food (still in Ben’s POV): Does she know she’s driving me insane, or is she totally unaware of what she’s doing? Her smile seemed genuine… and beautiful. Ben forked up a couple of peach slices—they…

  • Welcome, Liz Flaherty

I love welcoming my author pals to the blog and today I have one my very favorite authors, Liz Flaherty, who is here promoting her new novel, which just happens to be free on Amazon right now. The Girls of Tonsil Lake is Liz Flaherty’s eighth book, and it is no less thrilling than the first one was. Retired from the post office, she spends non-writing time sewing, quilting, and doing whatever else feels good at the moment (like drinking wine on Nan’s boat). She and Duane live in the old farmhouse in Indiana they moved to in 1977. They’ve talked about moving, but really…30-some years’ worth of stuff? It’s…

It’s snippet time! Last week, in The Summer of Second Chances, we peeked in on Julie trying to convince Sophie to just go for it, seduce Ben, and enjoy a hot summer romance. It’s a couple of nights later and Sophie has decided to give seduction a try. Dressed in a skimpy pink tank top and a white denim miniskirt, she encounters Ben as he’s relaxing on the patio after a long day of writing. Mustering the few vamp skills she has in her arsenal, she goes to work, inviting him to share her supper of salad, cheese and crackers, fresh fruit…and of course, wine. With a little creative punctuation,…
