• I’m Being Interviewed!

Come on by Edittorent, colleague Alicia Rasley’s blog, and check out my first interview as a published author. Alicia and I have known each other for a lot of years and have several Kevin- Bacon- six-degrees moments together during that time. Most recently, I’ve gotten to know her again as colleagues in the Indiana Chapter of Romance Writers of America. I had a terrific time talking to her—it was a lot of fun. Enjoy!   ***Breaking News! My book is #3 on this week’s BookStrand Mainstream Top Sellers list! Wow!!***

  • Book Release Day!

It’s here! It’s today! My romance novel, Rule Number One, releases today from BookStrand Publishing. Amazingly, I’m speechless with joy about finally realizing a dream I’ve had since I was ten years old. So, I’m simply going to point you to the book and thank you all for your support of my writing career. A note to sister, PJ: I’m sorry I couldn’t get my very first book published—you know the one I wrote when I was ten? The one where you and Karl Green, the guitarist from Herman’s Hermits fell madly in love and got married and you went on tour with them? Well,  hopefully, this one works for…

  • An Elegant Mourning

Today’s post is a repeat of one that I did for the Bettyverse back in the summer. I’m repeating it now in honor of my nephew, Kyle Alexander, who died ten years ago today.  God bless you, Kyle, and peace be with you, my dear sister. “We find a place for what we lose. Although we know that after such a loss, the acute stage of mourning will subside, we also know that we shall remain inconsolable and will never find a substitute. No matter what may fill the gap, even if it be filled completely, it nevertheless remains something else.” —Sigmund Freud (1961) Ten years ago, my dear sister, PJ, lost her…

  • Permission Granted

For the last three days I’ve been completely unable to focus on writing. Ideas are in my head, the rest of the story for the current  WIP (work in progress) is up there, banging around and forming, but when I sit down to write, nothing happens. This is scary stuff. My friend Roben says that maybe my concentration is off because I have a book releasing in less than a week—probably an excellent point.  My crit partner says to chill out and let it go–the last couple of weeks have been crazy busy with editing gigs and my own book edits, so I should simply relax, do something else, take…

  • Guest blogging and more…

I’m over at the Bettyverse today talking about best friends…but it’s not the conversation you might expect. Stop by and share your thoughts. Also, my debut novel, Rule Number One, is available for pre-sale at BookStrand Publishing and it’s on sale! How can you beat that really?

  • Not My Mother’s Stretch Pants

My friend C.L. (whom I’ll credit with the title for today’s blog)  and I were talking clothes this morning and I mentioned how much I love my Land’s End yoga pants. She immediately chimed in with, “Oh yes, I love my yoga pants, I probably have seven pairs! I put them on as soon as I get home from work and live in them all weekend.” “I know what you mean,” I agreed. “I have at least that many pairs. I work in them every day–they’re so incredibly comfortable. They’re not all big and baggy like sweatpants. They fit you and always look great, so you can pair them with…

  • Let’s Hear It for Love after 50

I’m bugged. It seems that romance novels are the bailiwick of characters who are younger than 50. If 40 is the new 30 and 50 is the new 40, then how come romance after 50 isn’t sexy anymore? Well, folks, I’ve got big news–sexy is timeless.  Excuse me, but two words, Pierce Brosnan. Sean Connery? Jeff Bridges? Denzel Washington, anyone? Richard Gere? And as far as sexy women are concerned–want to talk about Susan Sarandon? Sophia Loren? Goldie Hawn? Helen Mirren? Tina Turner? Me? (Sorry, I couldn’t resist!) Hollywood is beginning to get it. I thoroughly enjoyed the film Something”s Gotta Give—a love story between two people well over age…

I love a good mystery novel, and Kate George’s Bree MacGowan books are a treat. Right now, Kate’s having a contest on her blog right now—go on by, leave a comment, and you could win an Amazon gift card, plus discover a couple of fun mysteries. The Family Addiction is three sisters talking about books—delightful blog and Carrie, Amy and Sarah remind me a little of me and my two sisters. Enjoy, everyone!

  • Wednesday’s Links

Wow, I did something this morning that I haven’t done in more years than I can remember—I slept in. Now by “in,” I mean 9 a.m., but when my habit is to rise a little before 6, have breakfast with Husband, make his lunch, send him out the door, and be at my worktable by about 7:30, this is big. I was up late last night editing and when the alarm went off this morning, I simply couldn’t face the day yet. So I stayed in bed, snoozed for a bit longer, and woke up more ready to start back in on work. Coffee in hand, I’m getting back into…

  • Tuesday’s Links

Today, I’m sending you to StoryWonk, the fabulous podcasts of writers, Lani Diane Rich and Alastair Stephens. They talk daily about stories, the craft of writing, and the life of a writer. They also offer seminars and classes on writing. Every so often they have guests, but mostly it’s the two of them, sharing insights and ideas about writing. Even if you aren’t a writer, go for the fun chemistry between these two…and for Alastair’s Scottish accent… And on a completely different note, I’ve been using this website in my struggle to get my body back into shape: LIVESTRONG. It’s a great place to track food and exercise–counts calories for…
